Pope Benedict the Enabler.

VATICAN CITY -- The Vatican on Tuesday dismissed any notion that Pope Benedict XVI should take personal responsibility for the child sex abuse scandal rocking the church, defending his management of such cases and vowing the crisis would not interrupt what historians view as his conservative agenda for Catholics around the world. "This is not some multinational company where the chief executive is expected to take responsibility," Lombardi said. "The pope is not personally directing the actions of priests around the world. He is their spiritual leader, and he is one who has acted very clearly to confront this problem."

Green Man: So, the pope (Pope Benedict XXX-Rated) is the final word in everything in the church but somehow he doesn't direct what the actions of priests should be? That kind of explanation might work in a religious organization that demands unquestioning loyalty but not in the real world. And certainly not with the law in most countries. As Dylan Ratigan of MSNBC said today, "How is a religious institution exempted from the basic law that protects children from being raped?" How the pope doesn't have to take responsibility even though he personally presided over transferring some of these molesting monks to other places rather than punish them? Sounds to me like they are protecting their own over those poor deaf kids and others. I think Jesus would be siding with the deaf kids. Just a hunch.

This is beyond sad, infuriating and straight up disgusting. I know that he is not directly (carnally) responsible for what his perverted priests have done, but buy the Gods how can he do nothing when he is in power to take action?

I'm angry, so I might as well shut up, for I'm not the most eloquent of persons under this conditions.

Funny, the "word verification" I got for this post is "perdon" forgiveness in Spanish. It better not be a freaking sign because we are way beyond that!

It is just really sad and disgusting that he is not doing anything about this. Child abuse is a horrible horrible crime, and to not punish those her perpetrate it is just insane...do they think that just because they are one of the largest religious organizations in the world, they can get away with disgusting crimes??

@Magaly...Disgusting is right. The fact that he didn't take action as the LEADER of that church tells me he isn't a holy man but rather an enabler of abusive behavior.

Interesting about the verification comment. Yeah, it's pretty hard to forgive this stuff. Especially the poor deaf kids!! Can you imagine??? Not being able to speak out verbally while you're being abused? Sick, sick, sick.

That's probably why this pervert picked the deaf kids because they're not able to verbalize things.

@Wylde Sage...They may think they can get away with it but we all know better and that church will suffer greatly. It already has with people leaving it in droves. Not just for the abuse scandals but for others illogical stances.
